Engine/Cooling System Sealers - Yes or No?
There are block sealers you can use that work, but god the amount work required is nuts. And they are not cheap $40 to $50
- Do any head gasket work required
- drain and fully flush the engine with distilled water - NOT tap Water
- disconnect the engine from the rad, heater core, and any small hoses like the throttle body, and hose on top of the rad. (Or use a sacrificial rad that you are going to toss out)
- Remove the thermostat
- Route the hoses to allow water circulation
- Add the water and then the sealant
- Engine up to temp for the recommended time
- Complete coolant drain
- Pull the frost plugs, drain plug and hoses
- Let the engine coolant passages fully dry for 48 to 72 hours longer if in doubt (you can blow heat in to help drying)
- Put all the plugs in and do a final flush
- Put it back together and hope for the best
