Default Engine Knocking after Oil Change

I noticed my engine making a clicking noise today as I was accelerating away from a stoplight. I wasn't doing it yesterday, and I just had my oil changed today.....could they be related ? I haven't had the car very long so today was my first oil change. I live in TN so pretty much every day during the summer is high 90s (sometimes 100+), so I had ROTELLA 15w-40 put in. I have no idea what weight oil was in it previously, but could a change to thicker oil cause this? It sounds kinda like its knocking when the engine is idling but it clicks when i revv the engine between 1-2K RPMs. It runs perfectly fine, no misfires or loss of power or anything. I'll fire it up tomorrow when the engine is cold and see if it still does it.

Its not the oil.
It could be the oil filter, if you had the oil changed at a quick lube the filters they use are super cheap quality.
It could be that some sludge was knocked loose and is now rattling around or it is blocking a oil passage.

What is the recommended oil to be used in these engines?

Land Rover says 10w-40 for most people.
But it all depends on climate.
I use and also recommend Shell Rotella 15w-40 for the summer in the northern states and 5w-40 for the winter.
If you live in the south then use the 15w-40 all year.

How could the Oil Filter cause the engine to knock? I went and looked and it has a Valvoline oil filter. Sludge being rattled around in the engine? It's a subtle knocking not like CLANG CLANG CLANG. What should I do?

Not sure if this is a coincidence or not but figured I would share my story. I recently switched to Rotella 15-40 w/ M1-301 oil filter after all the hype I read on the forums. Since the oil change my truck idles rough and ticks like crazy. My truck ticked before but not like this. I am switching back to Rotella 5-40 synthetic tomorrow.

If I were you; I would dump the 15-40 (change your oil filter, again) and try a different spec/weight. Good Luck

If it's a cheap filter it can be undersized or actually collapse internally, restricting oil flow.

This is really, really easy. Stop by a parts store, buy a decent filter, put it on. You'll lose 1/2 a quart of oil if you're fast. Re fill and see if it still happens. If it does, change your oil again and go back to what you were using before.

Wouldn't that cause the Oil Pressure light to come on?

land rover states use 5w 30 synthetic blend. As long it lasts 7,500 miles

Pressure isn't the same as flow. You can have a restricted flow at adequate pressure and still not lubricate properly.
