Default Engine light and rough running

My disco has just turned 160,000 kilometers (Canada) last week.
I bought it 3 weeks ago for a real great price. It has run superb since then with lots of highway mileage in the 3 weeks.

On route today,at about 90km/hr (60mph), the engine light started flashing. I couldn't feel anything different at that point but when stopping at a light, she felt as though it was going to stall, and ran real rough. Couldn't get the "ummph" out of it as usual, dragged itself up to 80km/h, still running rough. It runs roughs in nuetral with no load, but not as bad as with a load.

I'm checking on it now with a visual diagnostic to coolant, oil, leaks etc.

Not sure if its tranny or engine related. Will keep you posted.

Has anyone had these symptoms before ? I will bring to the only Land rover mechanic in town tomorrow, but haven't used them before, (their sales guy is a sleeze ball) so need to go semi-educated.

Michael

Take it to an auto parts store that offers code scanning for free (I don't even know if this is offered in Canada, but it is in the states), have them scan for codes, and report back on this forum with the Pxxxx numbers.

I agree, a code diagnostic needs to be done.
did the visual inspection and all is perfect!
Coolant is orange
Oil is fine (color and smell - taste good too )
temp is good
very little moisture from tailpipe - occassional drip, but it is -10C today

Only one question... power steering fluid resevoir looks like its "bubbling". Possibly from recirculation line.. is that normal?

started engine, still a bit rough idle. seems to have a timed higher rev, once @ 1.5 seconds. make sense?

buy a code reader for yourself.
(knocking in the wood here!) you'll have use for it down the road more than once anyway.

final update on this.
misfire in #1 & #6 cylinders.
- completed tune up with platinum plugs and 8mm wires.
- coils replaced
- new intake manifold gasket ( procedural and unrelated to issue)
- oil change.
mechanic said plugs and coils had carbon accumulation on them. Of course I thought a seafoam flush would have saved me $836.00, but wasn't sure of last tune up, and I can sleep at night now.

She runs like new again and she feels great.. she told me.

Just have to watch if the catalytic converter in case it got a little plugged with carbon whilst driving to mechanic shop.

thanks for input from all! I'm sure it won't be the last time we speak.
