Default Engine misfire on #2

My service engine light came on today for the first time ever. I took it to the local auto parts so they could get the code for me. They said misfire in #2. Is this common. I know I need to change plugs and wires. Would this be the most likely cause of the problem? Or do I have a bigger problem? I always run BP 93 octane, so I don't think it is my gas. Any advise would be appreciated.

change the plugs to 8mm magencore wires and put some bosch +4 plugs in it and the misfire should go away. you are @ 65k so you should check out the 60k service sticky in the HOW TO section...

I've been working my way through the 60k service. Just haven't made it to the plugs and wires yet. I'm in the garage right now changing them. Just taking a break to see what else was recommended. Thank you.

After 4 hours the plugs and wires are changed. Bosch +4 and the STI 8mm wires. It had car quest 7mm on it... and the #2 wire had been burnt throught the boot. Busted knuckles, a sliced up arm, and one terrible head ache, but this is the happiest I've been in a long time. I'm guessing the milage will increase a good deal also. I was getting around 10mpg or 225 miles per tank of 93 octane. I just wanted to thank you hilltopper for the advise. And thank who ever created this forum. If you own a rover... this site is a necessity. It's also nice to know that there are others out there that enjoy Land Rovers and ignore their friends when they say "That's what you get for buying a foreign car that you can't get parts for, sell it and buy a truck". Thank you all.

you're welcome, finish up that 60k service and you will see the increase in MPG should be around 13-17 depending on city/street and how heavy your foot is.
