Default Engine overhaul.....

Ok - so here is my deal - I am new to this forum and am hopeful that it will give me some insight to my truck and it's many issues.... I have a 1999 Disco II (133k miles) with a 2001 engine (95k miles) in it. I bought it 3 years ago with the replaced engine and have invested money into it. I would like to keep it - but not pay someone else to fix'r up!

The truck has many small problems... but I would like to get to the majors first!!!

First - I am losing coolant (through the exhaust I blieve) and have been told that I need to replace the head and valve-cover gaskets. The truck is running really rough.

Also - I have been told that the flex plate has a crack in it and that is causing the heavy vibrations...

I would like to replace these parts with the help of my brother (a mechanic) but am wondering if the truck will require Land Rover specific tools to do the job(s).

Does anyone have any tips or insight to these problems and an idea of labor hours involved here. I would like to fix it all at once.

This is my first land rover and we love it and want to keep it. I just can't see paying someone else what it would cost to fix it.

Thanks for you help!!!

The valve covers take a 8mm 12pt socket. Other than that it just takes normal tools to do the jobs. Not that a 8mm 12pt scket isn't normal but you understand, I hope. Make sure you get new head bolts. The original head bolts are designed to stretch and can not be reused.

You need to do some checks before you jump in blindly.
Might want to send me your tele number so we can talk.

Talk to Mike before you start. He is a wealth of knowledge and will give you some good tips before you start.

That said, you are looking at an old Buick 215 pushrod. Nothing too special.
