Default engine rattle???

hello all,

was going to pick up my 1999 disco 2 from having the head gaskets replaced today, the mechanic called and said they put in new oil and filter..was going to flush again with new oil, drove the car around his lot and told me the engine had a rattle, he said it sounded like it was losing oil pressure and there was a rasttle in the engine, they were going to drain and put in new oil again. I also ask his if the person who was changing the oil knew it took 6.5 quarts with a filter.

any idea????

even though the head gasket was bad when i took the car in...there was no rattle..also there were no cracks in the heads or block.

any info would be helpful, I was ready to pick the car up this afternoon.

Thanks

Ralph

Default RE: engine rattle???

Was the head gasket bad because the engine was overheated? That could have created other issues as well, which are now surfacing. Most likely they messed something simple up and need to figure it out. Hope they didn't leave a socket in a combustion chamber or something other that would mean disaster for the engine. I would not have very high confidence in a mechanic that is trying to cure low oil pressure and engine noises by replacing the oil that they have just put in. Is this a shop that specializes in Rovers?

Let us know what they find.

Before they do anything, I would suggest the do an oil pressure test both when the engine is cols at idle and at 2000RPM's then do the same tes when the engine is at operating temp.
I alps have the same question posted to you, do you really overheat the engine posswibly causing a slevev to drop.
Was the engine flushed before it was torn down, I am wonderin if something ot lodged where it doesn't belong?
Are your mrchanics used to working on Rover engines?
