Default Engine shuts down - 2000 LR Disco II

OK - my wife was driving down the road and the Disco II shuts down completely - Sports, Manual mode flashing among other lights. Someone eventually jump starts the car and she goes a bit more before the same thing happens again. This time she waits a while and is able to start and drive a bit more with one more shut down until she gets home. I have it towed to a Land Rover technician with an AutoLogic scanner and found fault in tranmission (Watch Dog Check). He went through Land Rover diagnostics and found a faulty "transmission ECU". We ordered a used one and had it replaced. The vehicle was test driven and no more faults were found other than "service engine light" which has a bad O2 sensor we need to replace. We though problems were fixed.

We drove it for one day with no problems and then it starts shutting down again this time with no flashing lights on dashboard. We can wait 15-20 minutes and restart it and drive until it happens again. Had battery tested at Sears and they said it was good. Had it towed back to same shop to fix. They've had it for the last 2 days and can't seem to get it to shut down again. They don't get any codes or faults with the AutoLogic scanner other than the O2 sensor we know we need to replace. They ran it for hours on end in the shop and even have taken it for test drives but no luck in shutting down on them. They're going to do more testing tomorrow (3rd day), I'm at wits end and am starting to run out of AAA towing. Please help! Thanks for help.
Regards,
Bez

First go someplace other then Sears, the worst place in the United States for batterys and testing, have the battery and alternator load tested, ind out exactly how many volts at the battery and what is coming from the alternator, hopefully 13.8 to 14.6 volts.
You need to have someone drive the truck with the Auto logic to get real time information when the truck shuts down. It could be something as simple as a bad fuel pump relay overheating and shutting of the pump.
As for the O2 sensors, replace all 4 if you are at or above 80,000 miles. By doing this you will allow the engine to regain much of the power and performance it had when new.

Disco Mike,
Thanks for the tips. I have already forwarded these tips to the Land Rover mechanic. I'll follow-up and let you know the results. Thanks again.

Default 2000 LAND ROVER DISCOVERY 2 shuts down no power

I have the same problem.Shuts down while driving, sometimes starts right back up,and sometimes takes a very long time.I replced crank sensor, that did not work. When the truck shuts down ,I have no power at all.Shifter wont move into neutral from park,no dash lights,no cranking. The only thing that works is the hazards and door locks from key Phab.Any ideals? Ignition switch?Thermostat maybe,Fuel relay?Maybe bad anti theft system?I am very mechanically inclined,I have never had this problem. My code reader just reads the 3 amigos which I do not think that problem would shut my truck down.battery is in very good shape. No sputtering, back firing,or signs of bad fuel pump.Starts like a champ when its working.

Wow way to bring back a super old thread.... If you just changed the cps you should disconnect the battery and clean the terminals very well. hook it up to a good scanner while driving and wait for it to act up.

Ignition switch seems like a good guess.
