Default ??? Engine shutting off while running

Need to pick at your brains. My disco is a 00' year and running great. Yesterday, while driving on the freeway, the check engine light went on and immediately after ,the engine went dead so i had to just roll to a safe location and stop. I made a call to get towing but then 15 minutes after decided to give it a try and it started again, the car drove fine for another 20 minutes then the same thing all over again....I did this for about 6 times just to get home to avoid the towing charges. I am taking it to the dealership tomorrow but was curious as to anyone else ever having this problem.

Recap: car rus fine for about 20 minutes, then check-engine lite goes on and immediatley engine stops.....I rest the car for about 20 minutes then it is good to go for another 20 minutes then shuts off again. While running, car feels normal.

Any thoughts ????

Thanks,
Gerard from Chicago.

My thoughts are a bad crank sensor.

I agree with the bad crank sensor.
Any shop can replace it, doesnt need to be the dealer.

Pretty common Rover issue and I agree go for a crank sensor, may cost you around $80 in parts and a hour labor.

Took it to the dealer, crank sensor as you all suggested....they also came up with lots of other issues(leaking gasket manifold etc. )that they said were pressing that would run upwards of 4G's....I told them to fix just the crank sensor for now. Those dealers really get you...my crank sensor repair cost me $550.00

Thanks,
Gerard

Why did you let them hit you for the extra $300 when a small shop could have done it for less?
