Default Engine Swap Question - HELP!!!

My son has a 2000 DISCO II with a 4.0 w/o secondary air. The engine decided to spit a rod through the oil pan. We have access to another 4.0 engine with just 35K miles on it. However, this engine has secondary air. Can I use this engine and what would be the issues with making it work? Are there any additional sensors? Is the computer different? Do I need to worry about the air pump? Can I just pop it in and drive on? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

i am pretty sure you can bypass/block off all of the secondary air parts with, but the trick is finding all the hoses and stuff. i would get the RAVE CD and take a look at all the parts and try to track them down. The computer is a different story i have know idea if you have to have it reprogrammed or what, you might ask someone at the dealer. I don't like to buy parts from the dealer, but when i do i always milk as much info from those guys as possible, atleast at the dealer in my town the guys are pretty sharp when it comes to Land Rover's (i guess thats how the got the job).

If all you are going to do is use the short block, you will be fine. If you were thinking about dropping in a complete ne engine, I don't think you will want to do that.

Comparing the two engines side-by-side the only physical difference I see is the tubes running into the heads. It would appear that I can remove the tubes and block off the holes. If you look at the non-head secondary air heads they have a dimple where the holes would be drilled to add secondary air. Otherwise, I can find no difference. The block is the same, the intake is the same...it all looks the same. And, yes, we are doing a complete engine swap.

Just do it, it is he same and the engine ecu is different ,because it requires a program to run the air pump when the engine is cold to help heat up the converters. If you have the tubes with the dirverter valves installed you dont need to go any further, exhaust cant go back through the dirverters.
Your old engine probbly lost he oil pump, alot of them had timing cover alignment issues that caused the pump to fail,(crack the housing inside)
I've seen dozens, short blocks were on back order when this was being sorted out.
PS Land Rover no longer makes the replacement blocks and I never heard exactly where or who produces them now.But I do know the prices of the engines trippled after LR sold the casting equipment, thank Ford for this !
