I'm in the middle of a HG replacement. I bought a set of used heads on ebay that had been milled, cleaned, and put back together by napa. Napa also cleaned and replaced valves/springs/etc with originals. The owner of the heads on ebay sent me the original, used, rocker shafts/rockers/springs. My question is do I use the old rockers and shafts from the original heads on the vehicle or do I use the ones that I received with the new machined heads off ebay? I am using the original push rods that came on the vehicle and kept them in the correct order.

I am in the middle of rebuilding my 4.0 engine and rigid the heads completely including buying new pushrods and rockers etc... I made the mistake of using old stuff mix from other engines and ended up regreting it. The wear patterns are different and can cause serious damage. MHO go all new, its not the expensive. I used Rimmed Bros in England.

 

use your stuff.
your push-rods are mated to your lifters on one side and your rocker on the other, i'm assuming you marked them.

 

Make sure you check the tappet pre-load and shim if necessary.

Check the date code on the rocker arms. There is a bulletin about date codes prior to 00 having loose pushrod cups: http://www.landroverclubvi.com/uploa...ping_sound.pdf

When I did my valley gasket, I replaced the arms and shafts. I got arms and shafts for both heads for $155 shipped from land-rover-parts-shop.com.
