Default Engines Available in Disco II

Hi there. I'm new to this forum, and about to be, (hopefully), a new owner of my first land rover! Whilst I am a Brit, I am languishing in the desert in the middle east at the moment for work, and thought it might be a good time to get a Landie, and go play in the desert.

I'm looking at a V8 Disco II of about 2002 - 2004 vintage, but I have a query regarding the engines that they fitted to GCC spec cars. I have seen a 4.6L 2004 car advertised for sale, (though haven't been to see it yet), but I didn't think that they had fitted this engine to that car. My Land Rover loving mate back in the UK hadn't heard of it either.

I have asked the guy to confirm, and he says that it's a 4.6. Anyone have any info on this?

Thanks

OK thanks for that I've asked him to send me a picture of the engine bay. If it's a bosch engine how can you identify if it's a 4.6L ?

See Untitled Document, for some background on the Bosch 4.0 Thor engine, in two compression vaiants, low for Gulf states - so perhaps that means you can burn lesser grades of fuel with no cats?

See attached for codes to VIN numbers.

All D2 engines have the Bosch engine management system and all D1's and D2's have the same 52 year old Buick 215 engine in them, the 3.5, 3.9. 4.0, 4.2 and 4.6 all the same engine except in the case of the D's where the 4.6 has a longer stroke.

Thanks Mike, I'm now aware that all D2s have the Bosch management system. I was just wondering now, whether there was an easy way to visually distinguish a 4.0 from a 4.6.

Not really, other then if stock, only 03's and 04's had 4.6 engines.
