Just let me know! Also Red Cone may or may not be open pending snow still. If it's a heavy spring for snow then the drifts on Webster pass can take forever to melt off. Good news is there are plenty of trails in CO that should be open if not by then.
Will do! Going to keep the dates flexible until we get closer to the end of June. Just wanted to get it out there for people from a planning standpoint.
This one is back on for late June - early July. Red Cone to Moab. Moab to Grand Staircase. Let me know if you are interested and your Disco is up for the challenge! https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?m...07&usp=sharing
ok so clearly I’m missing something in my planning. Red Cone is impassable until June but Moab is too hot? Looks like I need to do a bit more planning.
I was in Moab mid June last year and we had 95-100 degrees F for two weeks. The Disco held up pretty well though. Just have lots of water and regular access to ice or bring a fridge.
It's desert, shade is hard to find and the hot wind dries you out quickly. Also a sunshade which can resist wind is strongly recommended. I have a tarp and that was very hard to set up and to keep it stable in the gusty winds. Before I thought these 270 degrees awnings are expensive overkill, but they seem to be very useful: quick to set up, easy to move with the sun (by moving the car) and they create lots of shade.
I'm here in Utah, but after going to Moab in June one year I don't do that again. Spent the whole time at the river where I could get cooled off. It does depend on the weather at the time. Hopefully it wont be too hot for ya!
Ok I’m going to move this up and skip red cone. Going to head out on March 11th and make it into Denver area by the 14th. So put your engine back together and hit the trail. Planning on stops in Colorado, Utah, Arizona and possibly Texas.
