Exhaust dump after rear axles
I've seen a lot of guys (especially in Australia) dump their exhaust after the rear axle for a better departure angle. I'm looking to buy an RTE rear bumper, so I'd rather not put it through the quarter panel, as it will have quarter panel protection. I'm also looking to make it slightly louder. Is there any reason I shouldn't just saw off the exhaust behind the rear axle and just get rid of the rear resonator? Has anyone done this?

You can only do as much to your exhaust system as your state emission laws allow you to do.
You can remove the first silencer after the cats and replace it with a straight pipe. Terrafirma sells them.

Exhaust shop would be cheaper than the TF piece I'm sure. All that's required is a straight piece of pipe welded in.
As for the original question, nope! I've run many a truck like that, and it won't make it loud. Just makes it sound good. I love the tone of a D2 with the resonator cut off.

yeah, that was the main thing I'm interested in, do you know how bad it is? I'd cut it after the axle so the exhaust pipe is facing down like the factory tailpipe.
That would totally depend on the speed you were traveling at, but off road going slow = might wanna have the windows down or get a cheap detector & toss it in the back.
I had an 05 Jeep Rubicon and I only shortened the exhaust tip 6 inches. After that I'd always get exhaust fumes inside the cab (rear tailgate/door had vents in it). I then angled the exhaust tip and it helped out a bit but every once in a while I'd still smell it.

my white one doesn't have a resonator and the tip the PO had installed got ripped off on a rock and I never got around to adding a new one or even a downturn and I have zero fumes in the cab. It's been like this for 2-3 years now.
I know there is a vent on the passenger side rear because you pop it out to gain access to the fuel door solenoid. Not sure on the drivers side where the exhaust is.
I always remove the resonators on all my LR's. However I have a tip made to copy the OEM path and it ends right under the bumper. I've never snagged it off road as the hitch receiver will hit first if you drop off a ledge evenly.
