Default Exhaust Manifold

Is it necessary to undo the exaust manifold where the 3 bolts connect to the cats pipe to move the exhaust manifold out of the way to remove the head?
Before I get started pulling them off today I just wondered? is forum has really been helpful.

Thanks
Tom

You could take out the bolts from manifold to head, but then you have less clearance to pull the head. I always remove the manifold to downpipe, if a stud breaks, you're not too bad off, as the manifold will be out of the car soon.
