Default Exhaust mod?

I just bought a 2002 discovery2 and was wondering if i can cut the larger of the 3 catalytic converters off and run a straight pipe to the muffler? Leaving the 2smaller ones and a muffler(wanna run a thrush muffler and get the deep sound and better performance) is this possible??

Please see attached from the shop manuals, which is called the RAVE. That big one downstream from the Y is a muffler, and so is that dinky one at the end. Some remove the rear one for a little more noise.

We'll move this conversation over to the regular forum.

There's only 2 cats, if you were going to cut one(which you shouldn't) it would have to be the one next to the front prop shaft.

And to answer your question with a question, "WHY"?
Doing something like that besides illegal and the engine won't run right, only will give you a very noisy truck to drive.

Cutting out the two cats won't make it noisy. If they are clogged and you are in a no check state, then your call. There are ways to trick the rear O2s.

I think the OP was looking to change the muffler(s), not the cats. As for more power, not so much. At the end of the day it is still a small motor in a two ton plus vehicle. But with tuning, mine was able to do 0-60 in 3.2 .. gallons.

I removed my furthest-most silencer(the one you can see under the rear bumper) for departure angle increase. The thing hung way too low. A little louder sound though.

Just bought mine from a used dealership, the mechanic there put a catalytic in front of the 2smaller ones thus confusing me and making no sense.his reason was it didn't pass emissions!?!? I built a blazer and a mustang back in the day and have to admit this truck is alien to me.i wanna run a cat back system, already added hid headlights with fogs to match.i even took a jeep liberty off-road light bar and retro fitted it to the roof.swapped the mirrors for led signal mirrors as well as added a brush guard and winch-system.body mods and interior has alwAys come easy to me as well as audio but, mechanically im lost? Anyone know how to increase the power and performance with keeping the fuel milage where i have it now? Getting 550klm to a full tank(mixed hwy and city)

I'd like to see some pics of these modifications you've made, but as far as power mods it hurts me to say this just doesn't have to motor for that. It took me a while to accept that these discoverys don't have a chevy 350 in them with endless bolt on performance options. Honestly though once you get used to the fact that its a turtle it's not that bad.

It feels like a race car after driving the non-turbo diesel defender around.
