Expanding rubber freeze plugs
Expanding rubber freeze plugs - any reason to not use these? They sure look good on paper... hoping someone out there has tried them before.

Yup. Currently in use on my D2. Put it in about a year ago and no issues so far. The only reason I used it was that the original plug was gone when I bought my D2 and I tried to put a new one in but couldn't get the thing in right. I bought the rubber expandable and so far, so good. (knock on wood)

Interesting!! Never knew this was an option. I've always placed a coating of silcone on the mating surface of my steel freeze plugs and never had a problem with them leaking. These sure would be easier to install if you were not removing the engine though.

Excellent... I have a leaking heater block plug (after-market) that was installed in 2005... now that I don't live in Alaska anymore, I'd rather go back to a normal plug. The first steel plug was leaking also - I think we might be trying the expanding rubber...
