Experienced Disco Mechanics in New York / LI ?
i'm not a mechanic, and i'm not going all the way out to long island -- sorry. (thanks for the tip of the hat though, zuke!)
i don't really know of anyone who does work on rovers in the area. haven't investigated it since i do most of my own maintenance and upgrades. i heard there's a shop on the bronx and there are a supposedly a couple in northern new jersey too. there are a few other forum members in the greater ny area who might have more specific details.

I share the same forever search. Consensus seems to be that British Auto Works in the Bronx
is the most LR knowledgeable, outside of dealerships. Haven't used them.
There's Roverspecialist in central Jersey, but too far for me, and a tad pricey.
I'd recommend G&T Auto Imports in Jersey City - Steve and Simon are deeply knowledgeable,
and passionate of-roaders. Reasonable prices. I've had a ton of work on my 96 Disco there.
Though I'd love to find a situation where I can pay for services, but also hang out and learn.
What with liability issues in shops, its impossible.

I am not a mechanic but I am very handy and technical. With patience, I can figure anything out... But if I want to do something like lift it, change out the steering damper etc, I need a shop. The Bronx is not a place I want to drive to... I am all the way out by Port Jefferson!
Well that's awesome news. I have all stock, great shape, 01 Disco SE. Tell me, what are the benefits of changing to ther TerraFirma damper like everyone talks about?
i was getting a lot of vibration through the wheel on the stock damper after more than 160k miles. the damper is essentially a shock absorber and its internal springs lose their elasticity just like a shock does.
two bolts and the swap is done. one of the easiest upgrades you can do.
