Default Extension roof track and crossbars

Has anyone bought these? I want to add the rack extension and then the cross bars so I can add ski racks this winter...

How do the rear rails attach? Are they hard to put in? Any other places to geth them cheaper than the dealer?

Thanks!

I have Yakima rack for bikes, kayaks that mounts to the rain gutters.
They are very tall towers as to clear the rear and the OEM roof rack.

My ski rack is Thule and mounts to the OEM rack with Thule cross bars.

I got everything from REI.

Hi,
Im really looking for an OEM solution. I've seen the Yakima and Thule setups, and am not crazy about how thery look--especially the gutter ones...

I would considering using the Thule / Yakima 6 pair ski carrier if they make an adapter that fits the OEM cross bars. Thule makes a univerrsal clamp one that I dont like the look of either...

Thanks for the input
Steve

I got the factory rail extensions. I like being able to put my MegaWarrior a bit further back. It reduces the wind noise considerably, at least in the front seat. The rail extensions require drilling the roof. I had the dealer do it. I do not have the crossbars.

Elliot,
What did the dealer charge you for installation of the rails / rails themselves? My dealer quoted me $190 for the rails, and 2 hours labor for install, which seems high. I mounted the cross bars on the front for now, but think they'll look a lot better once they go to the back:

OK, I got everthing installed and have some pics for anyone who is interested in what it looks like... (since the OEM look is pretty rare it seems)

Gotta love British engineering... They only put 1/2 the f'ing roof rack on the car when you buy it… How does that make any sense?!... Anyhow, I ordered the extension rails ($200) and the cross bars ($150). Ouch. Needed it for skiing though... Had to adjust the cross bars a bit so the sun roof could open / close without hitting. Everything works now... Ski carrier coming next week. What a pain in the a$$. A ford escape comes with the full roof rack installed when you buy it... haa

Does anyone know if the roof rack extensions offered for the DII will fit on the DI? Thanks Phil

Nope. The D1 has a shorter rear end than a D2. The frame of the roof is also setup to accommodate a bolt securing the end of the extension rail to the roof.
