Are there rack extensions made for the D1? Does anyone know? I have searched the web and only come up with extensions for the D2. Do the factory rail extensions allow full use of the rear sunroof. That is not a major concern but it would be nice.

I don't mean to be a troublemaker, but that seems like a lot of trouble and expense to carry skis. Seems they could be carried on the factory rack up front with some crossbars with no problem. But hey, thats just me.

When I was searching for a place to get the extensions, I never came across a set for a D1. I only saw the crossbar set. Here's a way you can check though. If you remove the trim around the rear windows, look for a place on the body where a bolt would go through. Mine had a place for a drill guide to make the pilot hole through the roof. I don't have any pics from that install to illustrate. However, try looking up Candiman's (I think) post on his interior removal and cleaning. You might be able to see the area near the alpine windows, without removing yours.
