So recently in windows down weather I get a faint raw gas smell. Not terrible but there when the truck is cold or warmed up. I do not have any codes and the truck for the most part runs pretty well. I do have a slight inconsistent rough idle. Could this be any of the below and slight enough not to throw a code? Yet...
- Fuel injector seals
- Intake vacuum leak (rough idle)
- Other leak?

 

There is a typical failure of the top of the fuel pump plastic that cracks. Can be fixed without removing it from the tank but access to it under the rear carpet is mandatory.
Inspect for wetness. Drying, cleaning and then scraping the 'waffle' cavity sections to obtain roughness in them. Fill the cavities with epoxy (I used JB Weld) and worked great. 3 years now.

Good tip on the fuel pump. I don't smell it in the car as much as outside. I did some sniffing around the rear seat latch areas and carpet, nothing there. Yesterday after running kids to baseball camp, when I returned and shut the car off, I could smell gas outside on the drivers side. The added twist - my IDAV valve was buzzing after shut down with the key removed. It stopped after inserting the key and removing it again so I think it might be time for a new ignition barrel.

 

If the cover on top of the fuel pump under the rear carpet has never been molested, smell will be kept outside as its gasket is good. The side of the tank can show wetness, looking underneath.
But the access to the pump top is under the rear carpet. Very tricky, need to slide the black plastic trim under the rear gate to expose some screws... If I remember well. I ended cutting a flap window in the carpet as had to do it twice. I would disconnect the battery working in the fuel pump.

Yes. the plastic 'cross' regurgitates fuel.
I dried well the 4 cavities of the cross; scraped their surfaces and poured JB weld epoxy on them. Cured.
