Question Types of fuel pumps ?

Greetings.
Is there several brands, and needs to be replaced with the same brand ?
How to tell the brand installed to order the correct one before removing it ? Or does not matter / cannot tell / must remove to find out ?
Is there different types as SAI and non SAI pumps and must the same type be replaced or is there something that can be modified ? Mine is non-SAI and saw and read that cheaper pumps are only for SAI ? Some ~$45 ebay pumps specify SAI and some say nothing. Added images below.
It would be great to modify the low cost SAI to fit a non-SAI vehicle.

The symptom am getting for a couple of months now is the need to crank 3 or 4 times in the morning to start; when it does, uneven idle and minor shaking that goes away in one minute and never returns until next morning. Also strong fuel smell by the rear with markings of gasoline spill/wetness by the tank side. 150K miles; seems replacing the pump would not be too bad preventive guessing. Have not diagnosed pressure nor anything else. Engine is healthy and runs very smooth all day no matter how many warm cranks/starts.

Found a video on how to access the pump ---->

With SAI

Without SAI

I'd be leery of the $45 pump myself. I replaced mine with a Bosch, which was well under $200 from Rock Auto. (Non SAI as well)

Thank you.

Would anyone know what connects to the black part of the non-SAI pump assembly pictures above ? Cannot find the rave manual diagrams showing anything else but a single outlet pipe connected to the pump top; what is the black part function?

I can't help you on the connections since I've never had to change out my Discovery fuel pumps (Knock on wood).
On my cheat sheet for a Disco 2 fuel pump I have:
- Petrol Fuel Pump - Bosch part #W0133-1597624 w/ SAI; #W0133-1597574 w/o SAI
- Diesel Fuel Pump - VDO Siemens brand

Well , found a little more information. (link below)
The black part is a pressure sensor; still not found on the rave an image telling how/where from a hose connects to it or its purpose.

Seen comments for cracked plastic top leaking and seeping fuel producing the gasoline smell. If the top of the assembly cracks/leaks fuel, cannot hold pressure under it to be sensed; so some sensor should be throwing error codes if the fuel tank loses pressurization. Still cannot grab the functional truth here.
And, the possibility of swapping/fitting or not the black sensor to a sensorless new pump assembly

Update... Findings so far:
Partially lifted the rear carpet (not easy), the fuel pump cover under it; found gasoline puddled 5mm all around the tank depression where the pump fits, and by the white plastic cross above, four more 5mm puddles. Cannot tell what leaks yet.

The pressure sensor hose [3] found very expanded and loosely coupled to [6]. Cut off the end inch and refitted tightly with a small nylon tie added.
Will drive a while with the thingy exposed and be back to report progress.

----> Drove and shortly found the top 4 cross cavities fill up from underneath and spill everywhere. Under that cross is the pressure regulator inside like in this borrowed image: ----> https://i.imgur.com/m3hN5Xz.jpg

Picture from my vehicle, as found. The black ring at bottom of white plastic cross seems to be a gasket leaking fuel and making the intense smell. The 4 cavities fill and spill over in 1/4 mile. If that is part of the pressure regulator, explains also hard starts. The hose at right is the swollen one.
Not a healthy sight electrical wires and puddles of gasoline. Ordered new pump assembly, will update.

Yep, your "cross" is leaking. The fuel line pressure leaks/bleeds down after sitting for awhile. I had the same problem, removed fuel line to relieve pressure and cleaned, scuffed up inside of cross, cleaned again and filled with JB Weld Marine. Cured overnight and the truck fires right up and idles great, no more leak. I also trimmed a bit off off the smaller hose because it was loose and secured it with a stainless safety lacing wire cinched around it. Oh,replace those lil' Philips screws that hold the access cover down and under the rear door carpet edge trim with stainless versions.
