seems to be that the new fan clutch plus water pump have done the trick. I've got as "normal" coolant temps as they come with these Discos. Still thinking of doing the inline thermostat mod. Thanks for the help guys.

Before you do the in-line, consider the 82 degree C soft spring oem stat, which will drop temps 6-10F. There have been a number of posts about it in last few months.
