Thanks for the suggestions. I ended up torquing them to 37 ft/lbs. Service manual said 37 for the crank pulley allen bolts. Seems snug, but not too snug. They were a pain to remove. When I broke one of the bolts, I pulled the breaker bar into my knee and left a nice handle-indentation. And, I did use the loctite. Now, onto the suspension.

Put rags in the belts to jam them.
I tried to edit the title after but it would not allow me. I was referring to the four allen bolts holding the clutch to the fan, not the main 36mm nut.

Thanks!

Sorry to hijack your thread, but to loosen the large bolt, it's counterclock? If so, dammit, no wonder I couldn't remove mine.

yes, counterclockwise / towards pass side. One good 'tap' from a bfh should do it. Then just spin it.

Whack the top of the crescent wrench from left to right or counter clock wise.
Left to right is NOT counterclockwise.
This is a standard thread bolt. If you're standing in front of the truck, the fan bolt loosens to the left.

those four bolts were super on there for sure when i pulled mine off. i cant remember what i did to finally remove them, maybe soaked wd-40 in there and let it sit for days. something..

but just used blue lock tight on the autozone fan clutch bolts and used the OEM fan as i didn't like the ford fan.
