A bit grumpy about it because I only just replaced the fan clutch in my '04 last year. It's making a wonderful grinding noise and giving me flashbacks to when the fan sheared off on my old Citroen 2cv.

Here's my question. Rather than buy another new 03-04 integrated fan and fan clutch unit, should I buy the 02 and earlier fan and the Hayden HD fan clutch?

I'm so grumpy about the whole thing I'm going to replace the water pump and add an oil cooler at the same time.

so search usefully ignores the word "fan" as a search term. Does anyone have a part number for a separate fan that can be sourced locally? (like off the shelf at Napa or Oreilleys) Atlantic British can't get me one to me here in Seattle until Friday.

There's always this (https://landroverforums.com/forum/discovery-ii-18/another-electric-fan-conversion-%2470-74939/) option, which is still working spectacularly for me.

That's the fan clutch I ordered. It'll be here tomorrow. Carquest came through today and got me the err4960 fan blade that came as original equipment on older rovers. One further question.

Neither the fan clutch or the fan blade with the hardware to mount to each other. Anyone know offhand what the screw size is?

Don't recall but I can check tomorrow evening once I get back home from Ohio. I'm pretty sure I have a old set up lying on the shelf.

Well that was fun. I just broke a bolt in the new fan clutch while torquing it. My ratchet was set to 18 ft/lbs so not sure what happened there.

new fan clutch will be here friday. meantime i'm going to figure out whether theres a better source for bolts

I honestly don't know why anyone would spend the money to repair a fan clutch when literally everything is better about switching to an electric setup.
MORE free horsepower, like, kind of a lot
MORE room in front of the engine
MORE life from your water pump
MORE cooling effciency

and I think you can make or buy a good setup at the price of a fan clutch

Some interesting statements there, particularly the last one.
All power to you if you're running an Electric fan but it's not for me.

Turns out my problem is the water pump. It has unknown miles on it as its the one thing I haven't already changed on the truck. Also looks like the Headgasket weep has gotten worse at the back of the motor. I'll get the water pump changed this weekend and see where i'm at. My 109 is about to clear Customs in Tacoma so if I can avoid pulling the D2 off the road for a headgasket job for a few more weeks, i'll have more time to get it done.
