OK, your father in law is crazy, the electric fans and the timing chain are in no way related.

Yeah, this has just been confounding me, it's just one of several things I'd like to address soon. Glad to know it's a non-issue, one less thing on the "I hope doesn't fall/blow/melt off the disco" list.
