Fan & Viscous Clutch- What are my options?
Hi guys as I gradually replace parts of the cooling system to my truck I was just wondering what the options were for fan and clutch replacement? What works for the 03-04 models? I know that there has been discussion on using a chevy fan and clutch but modification is needed. Can someone explain this a little more?
I see on ebay that there are heavy duty fans available but I've read that these can produce too much cooling and can be extremely loud. Can someone speak on this? What are the most bang for your buck and /or cross model options ?
Sometime in the next few months I'd like to get a legitimate airtex waterpump and tackle these two projects together. I also figure this thread would be quite useful other members wondering. Looking forward to the responses.
Thanks,

first off you have an 03, 03 & 04 have a one peice clutch and fan unlike the 99-02.
you either have to replace the whole unit or buy a used fan from someone like paul grant then you can used a standard gm clutch fan, to modify the gm clutch fan you just have to drill the 4 bolt holes to the next size up not a bid deal

Airtex fuel pump?
Water pump on D1/D2 are same. BP Utah and some others sell an aftermarket one with larger bronze impeller.
Fan clutch is reverse rotation, six inch diameter. A 2000 Chevy van, 4.3 engine, without AC, uses same size. The bolt holes on the Chevy version are not the metric threads of the Disco. You enlarge the fan mount holes slightly and use new bolts.
Or, you can go to the boneyard and pull one from late 90's - early '00s GMC trucks. I got mine from a 2000 Blazer. And I modded their fan (trimmed slightly), so I get more air flow, no wobble, pump has been good for six months plus since replaced. It is an important note than when replacing water pump or fan clutch, the other one it has been attached to for the last multiple million revolutions will also soon fail in sympathy.
