when i turn the key of my 2003 discovery S from a cold start, it idles at about 1.8k rpms for 30 seconds and sounds somewhat loud, then drops down to normal idle speed. is the normal?

heres the video of my starting it up, the sound changes a little because i move from the truck to outside. my camra fills up just as the rpms are going down.

do you have CE light or SES light?? if so go get codes read

If it consistent and settles back to idle rpm I would not worry about it. My 2000 Rover runs up to 1300 rpm at start up before settling back down.

The manual actually says this is normal..

 

1200 RPM's is the norm. I would double check with your mechanic, that can be a little hard on a cold engine, especially an 03 with oil pump issues.

 

now looking at it better, its 1.3k - 800, guess its normal, thanks anyways.
