Default Fel-pro valve cover gaskets

Anyone use these? Just wondering if they are worth the price $25 on Rockauto

I don't have any personal experience with their Rover gaskets, but don't see any ill reason not to use them. I always suggest running a bead of permatex around the gasket to ensure a quality seal.

Take note of the torque specs for the VC's - I think they call for ~7 or 10 ft/lbs. Sont quote me, best to verify.

I just put a set in. Nice quality soft rubber with metal spacers molded in. Only problem I had was one of the spacers didn't line up perfectly with the bolt hole in the valve cover. I had to stretch the gasket a smidge.

I used the FelPro I bought from Oreillys. Cleaned all surfaces diligently, I did not use any products whatsoever. Just clean, dry surfaces and gasket straight out of the box. You don't need any permatex, etc if the gasket is seated perfectly and surfaces are prepped well. LocTite and proper torque specs required to get this task done properly. Loctite* and 2-step torque sequence are your best friends. Clean the bolts well if you reuse them. People just throw the **** on there with some ticky-tack and call it "leaky VC problem with the D2" when the gasket fails a year later.

Thanks gents I appreciate all the info. I bought one of those oil seperater things as well. Need to make sure I get all the old one out.
I have to get a new torque wrench. Mine is a 1/2 inch Craftsmen. A bit big for this job Anyone know if the ones Harbor Frieght sells are accurate?
I still have an intermittent miss on #5 &#6 so I'm going to inspect and replace the o rings on all the injectors while I'm at it.

Really? My HF torque wrench checks to within a couple of lbs of my other two through most of its range above 15 lbs.

I used the Harbor 1/4 drive for VCs and upper plenum on 2 occasions. I will say that upper plenum gasket could use some permatex* on the block side for future info. I noticed the gasket doesn't comeplety seal between one set of intake runners. It's possible that is my fault from when my bro polished up the under side of the intake plenum but he didn't use an abrasive bit for the work. Something to look out for
