Default Fender Flare: Paint or Remove?

My Disco is relatively clean with these flares being the big exception. I've read through the posts on both removing and painting, so I was just hoping to get some feedback from guys who done one or the other.

I'm leaning towards removing them along with the running boards, but I'm afraid getting the glue off will not only be a PIA, but may damage the paint etc.

I like the Super clean look, but after removing one of my front flares, it was apparent that they had already been removed and painted before, and either the previous owner or just the flares themselves had damaged the paint irreparably.

Even if you just paint them you'll want to remove them to do it right. Take them off, see how it looks. If it looks good other than the adhesive then get a 3m eraser wheel to take the goop off.

Taking the running boards off is a big improvement in looks and off road function. I'm in the same boat with the flares. I think for now I'm just going to paint them in place. I'll mask off the area and use some trim paint I've had good luck with in the past. If they look crappy again down the road I'll probably get wider aftermarket ones and some wheel spacers.

I like my silver truck 10x better with the flares removed, pulled them off and used a rubber wheel to remove the reside a couple years ago

Yeah, I agree. I think I prefer the clean look of removing them completely. I'm going to brush the frame clean and coat it next, so I think I'll remove the flare while I'm at it. Thanks guys!

I was debating removing them, after doing the paint routine multiple times will undesirable results. Just be careful about damaging the paint removing the 3m tape.

I decided to go with the terrafirma extended flares, but haven't installed them yet

I would suggest using a heat gun to warm the tape while you GENTLY pry the flares off.

Also be careful not to create too much heat with the eraser wheel, patience is key

Hi FloridaRover, do you have a close up photo of the wheel arch with the fender flares removed. I am seriously considering removing my fender flares and have a similer color, Vienna Green truck.

That does look good! I guess that answers the question about what I'm going to do with mine!
