Default Finally got a Discovery!

I finally got a Discovery! My dad and I had been looking at them for a while, and we got a 2001 White SE7 from some friends of ours. It looks great but needs some work, including replacing the master cylinder, radiator, headliner, headgaskets, and ball joints. Yes we knew it would need some work when we got it and we are planning to send it into the shop tomorrow. If anyone has any advice about having these repairs done, I would really appreciate any tips from someone who has owned a Discovery. Thanks!

welcome to the club! you might want to try doing the easier repairs yourself (radiator, headliner, master cylinder) or get ready for some serious sticker shock when you get the bill. good luck.

First thing you learn when buying a Rover is do as much work as you can, don't throw it to the wolves/mechanics or it will cost you dearly.
No for that list, how do you know that it needed each and every one of those items?
I have a 99,, I know the vale of these vehicles, it would be hard to justify these repairs based on the valve of the truck.
You might want to PM me your tele number so I can call you and talk about these repairs.
Mike

haha just kiddin... congrats on the new ride... but like everyone else said try to tackle some of the work yourself... you will learn more about your truck that way and also have a better idea of what to do if you run into problems on the road or trails... as for the headliner thing, mine sags like all get out but its not vital to the operation of the vehicle... get it in sound mechanical condition before the cosmetic stuff gets taken care of...

They might have a good indie wrench head who works on it for them, most of that stuff a brake shop can do.
Welcome to the forum, as long as the truck is at the shop have them rebuild the front driveshaft with greaseable u-joints.

we took it to a land rover mechanic who left the dealership to start his own practice. He did like a 108 point inspection and found those problems. The radiator was discovered by my dad and i when we were looking at the air filter. The long tube that runs from the coolant resovoir to the radiater was cracked, so we bought a replacement from the dealer, but when we when we were putting the new tube in, we saw that the connection point into the radiator was cracked also. that was how we discovered the radiator, the rest were discovered by the mechanic
