Finally got to use my Hi Lift jack!
Spent Sunday with some of the members of the Houston Land Rover Club finishing clearing the trails for next week's LR dealer event (newbie owners get to learn how to 4 WD).
We had finished all the work and decided to take a few laps around the course and have a little fun. On the last time around I was bringing up the rear and heard a loud noise, my grand son jumped out to look and thought maybe my roof rack had rubbed by some branches. We continued on and I thought, "man something sure is wrong with my steering" as the rig was pulling hard to the left and sluggish. Got out and found a 4 inch slice out of my sidewall and a very flat tire.
The others had gotten out of sight so I sent my 12 year old grandson running to catch up with them. Hey, he's young and can do stuff like that! The ground was flat but quite soft and my axle was almost bottomed out so a light bulb went on in my head! Hey, I have that big friggin Hi Lift jack on the rear bumper! So I got it unhitched and placed it on the front corner of my ARB bumper. "Better loosen the lug nuts," I thought. Easier said than done thanks to the bozos who rotated my tires last time and obviously used something bigger than the 1 1/16 socket. I had to use the ball peen hammer to pound the socket on to each nut to break it loose.
I felt like the dad in that classic movie, A Christmas Story when he races for the best time to change his flat tire. By the time my grand son and a fellow club member got back to me I was tightening the nuts on to the spare tire I had put on.
I almost took the jack off because it tends to hit branches but I was glad I had it!
