Default FINALLY up and running!!!!

For all of those who sat and read my 'why does my Disco II keep overheating?' posts - I got her fixed... four months later.

After testing/changing:

* Thermostat (2)
* NEW Water Pump
* Heater Core checked
* Radiator checked and cleaned
* Heads pulled and checked
* Head gaskets replaced w/ new bolts

I put my tail between my legs and had it towed to a Land Rover Dealer (yes, I took a 4 hour shower when I got home.... felt SO dirty) they told me I was getting exhaust into the coolant - so they determined a sleeve slipped - and for $3600 - they would replace the engine.... AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN!!

Well, I parked it and started the search for a core - just the core - not an empty block or a full engine - just the core. So after 3 months - I finally found one - for $100!!!!!!! - in St. Louis.

I high-tailed my a$$ down there as fast as my little 2 door Escort would get em there - spent 6 hours pulling it out of the 'donor Rover' and threw it in the front seat of my car - and headed back to Chicago.

So - I started the chore of pulling apart the old engine to replace it with a 'shiny new' engine.

(In with the 'new'!!)

Started up on the first turn of the key!! BUT - found out the gasket behind the timing cover went bad so we had to change it AFTER the engine was in (6 hours later!!) and it ran fine - BUT - we found that the Crank Oil Seal was leaking and that was a 15 minute fix.

So needless to say - I put 600 miles on it in 2 days (Chicago to St. Louis and back via Route 66) and it runs like a dream - even with the A/C on!!!

Not used to filling it up every 10 minutes - but I can get over that hump.

Yep - took the front seat out of the Ford Escort ZX2 (2-door) and drove it all the way back home. I have (had) a 5-speed so shifting was a little challange - and the car wanted to veer (right) all the time for some strange reason!!!

I can honestly say I spent around $1000 to get parts tested - bought new parts - block - and all the other things to get it running.

Not too shabby....

I guess you weigh a bit less than a V8 long block
I just dropped my rebuilt engine in Saturday and hoping to get it running by this weekend, all that work and no play sucks.
