Depending on the age of the truck and how long you plan to own it the Eastwood or rust converter, plate, and even underbody coating will hold it off for a while. If you are planning for another fabulous fifteen years of ownership in the salt belt, maybe not. A lot of guys don't think about rust when shopping for a vehicle. It can show up from age, exposure to the frozen North and road chemicals, beach buggy use, and around me the salty mud from marsh and tidal creeks. I bought a Mercedes that had lived in Atlanta (no problem) but moved to Rochester (I had no idea they could rust in so many places at the same time).

Rust spreads.
I lived in Rochester NY for years.
Everything got rusted from Road salt.

I lived in Seattle - no road rust.
California - no rust

But the back east has genuine people. And the seasons...
That is all good too.
