Default Trans and transfer case oil temp sensors

Hi all-

The trans/transfer case oil temp light has popped on recently. I'm aware of he proper approaches to solving this problem but... For the life of me I can't locate new sensors online (as in for sale). Does anyone have a solid source for these parts? I've tried all me old standbys including Rover specific and general parts suppliers with no luck.

I'm driving a 2000 DII, 4.0L.

Ad advice would be appreciated. For those of you in the US, happy 4th!

Barry

Hmmm... Looks like I might not be the only one stymied... :-)

My transmission sensor went out last week and I picked up a used one:
Land Rover Engine Oil Cooler Temperature Switch Disco 2 II 99 03 UBI100030 Used | eBay

You can find them new at AB:
Sender Oil Cooler Temperature Transmission (Genuine Part # UBI100030) - Land Rover switches/control unit/actuators from Atlantic British

I'm sure you can find the transfer case sensor there too.

Are you sure it is sensor and not low fluid in one or both the components that turn on that lamp?

Many thanks! I had already checked AB but was foolish enough to only look under 'Electrical' - then 'Sensors'. They listed one for the D1 but not D2. Anyhow, thanks very much for the help.

Do you have a similar bag of tricks for the t/case oil temp sensor? I realize I could always visit the stealership, but...

Cheers!

Savannah-

Yes, I'm sure, but thanks much for asking. In a way I wish that were the case.

Sure, it should be:
Sender Oil Temperature Transfer Case (Part # PRC7984) - Land Rover sending units from Atlantic British

One thing I don't like about AB is that they make it difficult to search for parts. For reference the search was for transfer, and filtered down to DII

So, just want to make sure, you say you did your both fluid levels, when were they last serviced and did either smell burned?
I am only asking because there have been some question in the past, and I don't want people to think and install a temp sensor when it is actually a over heat issue of either the t/case or tranny.

Jawbox-

Thank you and yes, AB can make it more difficult sometimes than it may need to be. They're usually the first place I check though and they have been a great resource.

Mike-

Thanks for the questions. The fluids are in good shape, and have been changed not so long ago. You're absolutely right in saying this is the first place to start the detective work.

Also, do you have a service engine light on, if so you might want to check and see if you have any of th # 700 to 801 tranny fault code numbers.
If it stays on all the time, yes, it will be one of the two temp sensors.
Let us know what you find.
