Default First day in the snow

So the main the reason I got rid of my Honda S2000 for a Discovery was the snow. I was tired of getting rides to work and caused stress I didn't need. It snowed a good amount here in Denver today and I was very eager to see how well it performed. Handles great! No slipping or sliding and was able to get on my driveway with no problem (the S2000 wouldn't have made it and would've gotten stuck).

My only concern was the ABS kicked in several times on the way home from work, this concerned me a little. I'm fully aware of the function of ABS, but was shocked at the braking performance. I remember my old jeep grand cherokee braked much better in the snow without the abs engaging. The roads weren't even that bad, they weren't completely covered in snow. Does this ultimately come down to the tires I have (pirelli scorpion str)? I must have tires that are poor in the snow, right? Just want to make sure that the early engagement of the ABS is only a function of the tire friction and nothing else (brake pads, rotors). Has this happened to anyone else?

Yup, it's your tires.
Cooper makes a great snow tire, it's the Discoverer M&S.
And it's not that expensive, make sure you get four tires no matter what you get.

your old grand cherokee weighed about 1,500 lbs. less so yeah it probably did brake better. If you ever get in an accident you'll be glad you have the full frame of the rover under you.

make sure you get 5 tires.
if you only get 4 and get a flat the spare wont be the same size.
I like the 245 16 Bridgestone Revos in the snow

I think winter tires are a must anywhere it snows. All season tires are not as effective on ice and in snow as a winter tire. Especially in braking situations. I like the Wintercat by Radial SST, very good price\quality ratio.
