Default Snow Driving and Snow Tires

One of my buddies was telling me that Discos were awful for snow driving and as i have owned mine for all of a month, I am currently unable to argue that point from experience. Any insight?

Also, I want new tires that are great in bad weather?

Well, in Feb you should have some experience.
Nokian's are thought very highly of.
Some people like Blizaks, but unless they have changed their design, the "good" rubber only goes for about 50% of the tread depth.

Discos are great in the snow if the ETC is working otherwise they are about as good as any other super heavy one wheel drive truck.

Plenty of snow experience here in Colorado. I run Yoko Geolander H/T-S year round. I live just below the crest of a hill and spend several evenings a year pulling folks in lesser vehicles up and over. Of course, my ETC is in proper working order.

If you add center diff lock it will be unstoppable in the snow. Even with just ETC is very capable.
The only time ive had trouble with winter traction is on ice. And no matter what vehicle you're in, ice will never be an easy obstacle.
Does your friend have experience driving Disco's in the snow?

Does your buddy drive a Disco?

IMO, Disco's are at their best in the elements, as long as your ETC is working, or you have CDL.....and you don't drive like an idiot.

As far as tires go, stay away from rock crawling/mud tires as they tend to be made of harder/more durable rubber that gets extra hard when cold which causes a big drop in traction. BFG A/T's are great in the snow, but BAD on icy roads.

A good set of tires and either the CDL and or the ETC will embarrass most other 4wheel owners.

I've had the opportunity to pull more than a couple of other 4 wheelers out of the snow, in my 2003 Disco with only ETC and only decent tires...Can't wait to see how it performs this year with New DuraTrac's.

tires are your limiting factor. i can go very far into the snow on street tires but a set of proper tires will be better.

I like my new Bridgstone Dueler Revo 2's. 245/75/16. They had great traction last winter. I found the highway tires I had on previous Kumo Road Adventure 255/55/18, with horizontal lines in the treads were OK but not that great.
