Okay friends,

I've got seven quarts of Mobil 1 'full synthetic advanced protection' 5w30.

I've got a K&N 3001 filter.

Is there anything else I need to know? Any additives I should buy?

Nope. Just drain and fill. You should fill the filter and put a light coat around the seal before installing.

 

Just like any other oil change, only better because it for a Rover.
If you need a additive then you need a different oil.

It went well!

The old filter came off like a som'gun. I don't own a filter wrench (I change 'em so often they come off easy)... but I had the same problem this time as I did on the Jeep when I first got that. I had to put a screwdriver through the filter walls and use it for leverage. Came of easy, the new one was WAY longer, but it still fit on and didn't give the plastic guard below the fans and radiator any grief.

The oil cap was hard as heck to break loose too. I'd assume it was changed like... a year ago, but the oil smelled free of gas and burn-age, and it was still a bit clear. Wasn't blackened.

The only thing that wasn't tight, surprisingly, was the plug.

Anyway, it took 6 (not 7 like I mistakenly thought) quarts, and it warmed up nice and fast like it always does. We're about to go celebrate one of my wife's cousin's college graduation parties, and I'm taking the Disco.

As Phil knows, it's nasty as hell here in mid-Michigan, so I'm not looking forward to taking her down the dirt (mud) road for a mile, but that's why I got 'er.

If your truck is like mine, you'll have used that 7th quart by the time you do your next oil change.

 

I have told Pat this already, this is what I do after a oil change.
Take one "empty" oil bottle and stick a small funnel into it, then take another "empty" oil bottle and turn it upside down and stick it into the funnel, let it drain overnight, the next day take another "empty" bottle and do it again, continue doing this until all of the "empty" bottle s are not in fact empty.
6 "empty" quart oil bottles will net you at least half a quart of oil.
You paid for it, so why not get it back? As well as keeping it from a landfill.
I also let my used oil filter drain into my dirty oil jug overnight to collect as much of the dirty oil as I can.

 

Speaking of the weather Pat, working in Grand Haven today, the wind is blowing HARD, 4-5ft swells on the lake, I am down town making deliveries, I open the drivers door on the van and the wind rips it out of my hand and peels it around to the fender.
I had to use all my weight and push it back so that it would close, then I could not open it all the way after that. Luckily I only had 25 stops to go.
