Default detailing question

ok, i just tried to detail my rover and i want to know some tips on getting that stupid pebbled textured insert on the console clean.
you know the one - its around the shifter **** and the four wheel lock ****.
for some reason mine gets FILTHY ! and i dont know how to get it clean. if tried a scrub brush to no avail. so i hereby put the question to the brain trust:
what is the best method/tip/technique you guys/gals have found for cleaning this piece?

Only drive at night and that way you cant see it.

On my DI I just yanked it out and used some heavy soaps on it to get all the crud and crap out of it, and then put it back in place. I think there's supposed to be an adhesive or something that holds it in, but it sits fine without it.

That is what I do. It just a weak glue that holds it down. You do not need to re glue it. It is rubber and sticks either way.
