MagPie came with an annoying rattle from the back of the truck, did a little poking around and discovered the rear spare tire carrier was the culprit. Looks as though someone else had already been in there to "fix" the carrier based upon the shi-ty welds that you can see below. What happened is that the metal that the OEM carrier is made from is so thin and the lug studs are just welded to it. With an OEM spare i'm sure its find but with an oversized spare, the weight difference can be quite a lot.

Found several cracks which you could hear / feel when closing the rear tail gate. Tried my best to fix the problem (which i did) but to be honest, I could have spent a lot more time than the 20 mins i had today to grind / weld. Naturally, i didn't have time to take a pic of the finished product but i have to take the carrier off again in a few days to paint everything so i'll share then

Might just fab up a whole new rear mount in the future but for now, things are silent!

Same here. I managed to find a local replacement in good condition. Kept my original with the intent to fix it up and keep as a spare.

I can grab tire carriers if you guys want a nice one. Shipping would probably be more than the cost of the part...just a suggestion.
