Unhappy Flashing lights on the dash! PLEASE HELP!

Hello,

I own a 2001 Discovery with 110,000 miles. Its my company vehicle but my dad owns the company. We bought it about 2 years ago and I've only beed driving it 6 months. Just the other day the "manuel" and "sport" lights began flashing when I started the engine. The "check engine" light is on. When it does this, the trans gets stuck in the 3rd, won't shift down or up, but will go into park, nuetral, and reverse. only does it for 5 or 6 starts, then goes back to normal, with "check engine" light still on. I'm totally clueless on what to, being a relatively new owner of a Land Rover. This is the best vehicle I've ever had. SOMEONE PLEASE ENLIGHTEN ME!

Start with reading your owners manual 3 times cover to cover so you won't be so clueless, then go find a local auto parts store that will read the codes for free or go see your mechanic and get scanned. Get the 4 digit fault code numbers and get back to us with them. Do not drive this truck except to get the codes read or you will cause more damage.
Do it this morning!!!

Mike,

Thanks so much for your time. I had to work late yesterday so couldn't get down to get the codes, but I didn't drive it just like you said. I just got back from Auot Zone and the codes read:

P0560
System Voltage Malfunction

P1562
Veh Speed
idle speed ctrl
auxilary input

Any help in this would be very appreciated.

Thanks
John

So, go clean and tighten the battery cables then go to your local auto parts store and have the battery and alternator checked. Se what the exact voltage is, of the battery with the engine off, then at idle and at 2000 RPMs and get back to me with those numbers.
