Default fog lights

hi there guys
so my 02 sd did not come equipped with front fog lights but did with rear fog light
so i thought to install some lights on me brush guard and wanted to use a switch that would go to the left of the steering wheel just like the one for the rear fog light with the little indicator light on it
i came to find out that it is wired for front fogs because there is a connection to it so i wanted to just use that for my spot light on brush guard
but when i plug the switch into the connector that is there in the dash the little indicator does not come on
i also found out that there is no relay for the front fogs under the hood so i just used the horn relay (thought is the same) and still no indicator light on the new switch
so if anybody understands what im talking about please put in your suggestion
thanks a lot

Fog lights will only come on when low beams are on. Make sure your lights are on and on low.

Parking lights with fog lights on. Headlights are off.

I'm not sure.. but I believe there is a spot for a fuse for the fog lights as well.

I really had to go out and check ralphobell.... lol.

Also, make sure you clean those connections and use dielectric grease in them. Not alot.. but enough. Mine didn't work when I bought it and it turned out to be corrosion in the plugs.

Thanks guys
Sooo I found the connector for the switch left of steering wheel I found the connection under headlights for fogs also found the fuse at least I believe I did
The relay is missing so I tried the horn relay
And I'm still not getting the little indicator light to come on or to send power to the fog connectors
From what it seems to me like the first connection is not connected witch is the the head light wire
Anybody know where that would be
Thanks thanks thanks

All I can suggest is to trace the 3 wires back from the headlight plug. The headlights work off of a separate switch. I'm sure the button for the fog lights is somehow connected to it.

Or.. trace the wires from the plugs that are mounted beneath the headlights. Sorry for the late edit.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I think that starting with the 2002 model year, you need to go to the dealer to have them program the BCM to activate the front fog lights. (If yours didn't come with them originally) At least that's what my dealer told me.

Front fog lamps will only work with sidelights or dipped headlamps (and main beam, if the BCU settings allow it).

In addition, all model years of D2 require the front fog lamps enabling in the BCU settings (the BCU controls the earth path for the front fog lamps relay).

There are three settings available -

1. The vehicle is not fitted with front fog lamps

2. The front fog lamps will operate if the headlamps are on main beam

3. The front fog lamps will not operate if the headlamps are on main beam

The warning light on the switch is powered from the front fog lamps circuit, so is a good indication that there is power to the circuit.

Thanks for the response
Ok so the rover is wired for the lights but the was no actual lamps or switch installed
So I bought the switch and want to put two lights on the brush guard instead if fog lights to eliminate running new wires
You're saying I need the dealer to reprogram the bcu for that to work
And now I'm not getting the little indicator light to the switch on
Thanks again
