Default found my coolant leak!!!

so i had been suspecting a very slow and slight coolant leak for the last couple months. no drips or burn off.

was tinkering in the garage last night and pulling plugs to check my #2 bank for O2 issues. anyways i decided to clean my TB and butterfly. took the air intake ducting off and cleaned the TB and started the truck. i could smell a very slight coolant burning smell and broke out every light i owned and started looking.

i saw a bit of steam rise from the driver side valve cover and started looking hard in that area. low and behold i focused my attention on one of the hoses that runs to the TB heater. and sure enough after waiting for 30seconds i saw a tiny drip from the hose.

as it turns out the factory pinch clamp had lost clamping force and the plastic hose was no longer tightly in place and was allowing a small drop of coolant to pass every minute or two. very lucky this had not popped out all the way and blown its load all over and had a potential overheat issue.

took old clamp off and put a new stainless screw clamp in place. fixed!

also cut out my drip pan and degreased the unside of the engine. not that bad actually. no major leaks or signs of.

went around and gave a sinch to all the bolts on the new shocks and springs as they have about 500miles on them now.

AB is sending a new O2 sensor to replace the one that went bad.

also driving with my new scantool on live data i have a idle temp if 204 in traffic and 194 driving at 55mph. so for the moment i have a heathyish rover.

I'm sure I will some how with my constant tinkering haha

Oddly my 32 year old ferrari with 70K miles is the most reliable car I ever owned

207 at the rear wheels. did a dyno day a few years back. i still maintain that 3.0l V8 was one of the best engines they ever made. you can really do a lot with them in the realm of upping comp. ratios, bigger cams, valves, etc as they were very tame from the factory to meet all the emissions standards of the time.

there is a builder up north of me who builds bored over 4.0l engines from 3.0 blocks and is making well over 400hp. now that is my dream build. but you need $25k to do it,,,YIKES

I'm not sure I could justify spending that much even if I was rich

I had my TB heater bypassed.

Not worth the PITA.

I have the same leak now coincidentally right after the recent wreck my wife was involved in. The kit is available at Atlantic British one Genuine & one after market.

Oh & there is a very good How to article here.

Oh I did have the pre molded tubing break not too long ago & we just replaced with flexible hose intending it to be temporary but ultimately it seems like an upgrade considering what was there
