Default Frame coatings

Hi everyone, got my first D2 a couple of months back. Just starting a frame swap. Any suggestions on what to coat my replacement frame with to keep it in good shape for years to come? Any other suggestions of things to do while it's pulled apart?

@dandswicks20 It is a yearly thing or fully galvanized frame. But for the outside POr -15 is often used but it is nasty stuff to apply, stay away from rubber under coats. The inside is the problem you need a good sprayable product.

Here is one article https://www.robisonservice.com/articles/RonR_waxoyl.php

Thanks.... Not doing galvanized due to cost but have a really clean replacement frame, being from MA I want to protect against rusting from inside out. Appreciate the info!

I like fluid film, they come with 360 degree spray nozzles on long tubes. Used engine oil is a known magic rust repellant so you use that too.

I vote for fluid film like Extinct. I am from MA as well so familiar with the rust struggle.

Default Rust check is the answer

Don’t know if they have franchises in your area, but Rust Check is great!! Had it on my Peugeots (yes, odd cars before Land Rover!!) as well as long life VW diesels. Really works on new and used. A film type product developed in Canada. Love it!!!

I'm always a fan of just plain old gloss black rustoleum. A nice heavy coat. You can get turbo cans now and it lays on quick. Salt and whatever washes off the gloss finish easy. Readily available and easy to reapply, and the oil base paint seals the surface up nicely while being less chip prone than POR15 and similar products.

So the update is that I went with fluid film but keep getting the stuff all over me every time I use the hitch!
