On my '95 D1 at the fresh air intake just below the windshield, there are the remnant pieces of what looks like a filter made from a sponge type material. Is it correct that this blocks debris from entering the vent. system? Has anyone come up with a good replacement material? Thank you.

 

You can get filter foam at home depot to cut to size.
