These are 60's engines, 1961 in fact. Sure, the oil has gotten better, but the manufacturing tolerances were worse by the time these engines were cranked out. I stick with ~3k mile intervals.

@H20nSnow there is no harm, in more frequent oil changes other than to your pocket book.

Yeah, I can't even imagine such a thing. I've always made frequent changes on all of my boat motors. Other than the money I spend, no one has ever suggested I'm doing harm.

Like I said, some need the psychological comfort. Fine. But claiminh these engines are the same as they were when first introduced is just absurd.

There is a post earlier in this thread that explains it quite well. But it's not like it's going to change your habit.

No, there isn't one.

It was a serious question. I wanted to know if you know something I need to learn. Why are you being a jerk?

Like I said, an earlier post in this thread went into some detail about it. I'm sure I could not remember it all and besides, you would just think I was being a jerk.
Aside from far improved metallurgy and foundry processes, improved and new rubber and plastic technologies, laser-guided cutting and molding, production line controls, etc., engines in the 60s and up until very recently had no computers or sensors to monitor the oil and other engine conditions. There was no way to tell what state the oil was in without changing it. So, yeah, a 3000 mile change was a good idea. Now you may prefer not to trust the technology current engines have, but that's another matter. I see it as a case of cutting off the ends of a ham to cook it.

There are only 18 posts in the thread right now. I went and looked; there is NOT a post here that goes into detail. If you found it and pointed to it, I would NOT think you are being a jerk, I would think you were trying to recover from being a jerk. But whatever, you be you. Have a nice day.

Talk is cheap my friend, you can call it whatever you like. I still say you're wrong. How many miles do you have on any "60s tech" engine in your garage?
