My daughter busted up her front on something. Long story short is I have to get an aftermarket bumper and drive 10 hours to denver to get it mounted. I will have to do this job with tools and material that I take out and install in a snow covered parking lot so I have a few questions.
1. What bumper to buy in the $600 range that will fit up without problems. She doesn't need winch mounts or bull bars.
2. What do I need to relocate the washer bottle? Is there a different washer bottle that works better?
3. What to do with the inner fender skirts that go over the front tires. To you just trim them and secure to the new bumper.
4. Are there other things that need to be done.
The truck is a white 02. Thanks for any suggestions.
Aftermarket bumpers are usually metal and easy to install Usually there is no relocating of anything as they fit right in. But still a pain doing it outside in the cold
a good set of hand tools and socket set
Check out birmabrightbrotherhood.com. It's a network of Rover owners all over the world who register to be available to help each other out in situations like yours. There are several registered in the Denver area, some of whom say they offer repair facilities and overnight accommodations. You have to join to see the list. Heck, maybe some of them would do the work for you and your daughter! The list may be quite stale, however, but it's worth a shot.
Another option may be to simply have someone in Denver pull off whatever may be left of the bumper. The truck can be driven temporarily (or indefinitely) with no bumper cover.
Here are a few thoughts on the bumper, etc.
1. What bumper to buy in the $600 range that will fit up without problems. She doesn't need winch mounts or bull bars. Others have had good luck with the Terrafirma bumper. I had a struggle with mine and others have too.
2. What do I need to relocate the washer bottle? Is there a different washer bottle that works better? The Terrafirma has a shield for the washer reservoir. It's not clear to me that relocating the water bottle is "required" with others. You could leave it partially exposed. YMMV.
3. What to do with the inner fender skirts that go over the front tires. To you just trim them and secure to the new bumper. There was no need to trim in my installation. YMMV.
4. Are there other things that need to be done? You'll may need to source new Grade 8 bolts.
My youngest daughter was in tears about her bumper so I was gonna drop everything to go fix it. I got her to just duct tape everything up till she comes home for spring break. I don't want to half-*** a job.
