the motor should be fine. Before you lose any more sleep over it, go look under the truck, take some photos and post them. The brain trust that is this forum can then better identify the problem and recommend a fix. I would look around for a DII in a salvage or wrecking yard, it does sound like you will need a transmission, sorry. See if the salvage yard has a front propshaft as well. You can have one rebuilt with new u joints for aroudn $180. Not a big deal to take it out and put it back in. However, in your case, you could probably get the folks doing the tranny install to include it in their labor charge. Also, the slavage yard may install the tranny for your for a lot less than a transmission shop. With 108k and an engine rebuild, (whatever that means, it could be just the head gaskets) the motor should be good for another 100k miles, as for the rest of the truck, it is a Land Rover and things will break and it will require maintenance. A toyota it is not. Good luck, with the tranny fixed it should still be worth $5000 plus or minus, without the fix, you will be lucky to get $1500 maybe a little less. Good luck. Phil

You are 100% right! There is a hole in the bell housing.

 

Man that scares the **** out if me. I just ordered a front drive shaft from great basin rovers and it can't get here fast enough.

 

Jeff, like a good quarteback, go through your progressions, check the tranny, hole, check your front driveshaft, broken, check the cats and o2 sensor. Find a wrecking yard in your area and get a price for a used tranny, see if they will install it and give you a warranty. Find a front drive shaft and have it rebuilt or order one from one of the vendors listed above. Get it ordered up and you will be back on the road in no time. Check out the connected ends of the driveshaft and make sure that the tranfer case and the front diff have not been damaged. The tranny is probably something that you want a pro to do, it is heavy and you want to make sure that no contaminents get in the system. Bummer about the hole in the transmission, but now that you know what your are dealing with, it is just a matter of fixing it. Good luck. Phil
