I have searched endlessly on this forum for people discussing the "rubber boot" that is on the front drive shaft. I am NOT referring to the Rotoflex on the rear.
I am attempting to rebuild the front double cardon joint. When you get the joint apart you will notice you need a center bearing ball and there is a little rubber "boot" or "sleeve" that at a minimum looks like its function is to keep dirt out of the shaft (potentially keep grease in the shaft). How important is this? I blew a hole in my transmission because of this whole driveshaft ordeal and am very much in the business of doing things correctly. My brain is telling me to buy a new propshaft because I cannot for the life of me discover anyone even referencing this piece let alone a place that sells a replacement.
It seems awfully silly to spend hundreds of dollars for a new shaft, but I'm at that point... I bought a used one for 100 USD, rebuilt the back side, and now that I am rebuilding the front I am realizing it may be a failed endeavor... At this point a few hundred bucks for the peace of mind just seems like the right way to go.
TLDR; There is a rubber "boot" or "sleeve" that is on the FRONT drive shaft? Is there a place to purchase a replacement? Is it safe to rebuild a drive shaft with a torn "boot" or "sleeve"?
Thank you all in advance. I am a longtime lurker first time poster please trust that I have tried to dig on here for this information LOL

Edit: Please keep in mind this is on the double cardon side of the front drive shaft. Once you remove the double cardon cover / contraption (not sure of the right word sorry) that contains the two u joints this is what is left underneath.
