Front prop shaft question
Recently acquired a 2004 DII with 51,000 miles and one of the first items I looked into was the front prop shaft. It seems the previous owner replaced the u-joint closest to the front differential with a serviceable u-joint with a grease zerk, but left the two u-joints in the dbl-cardan as stock. My question is, how urgent is it that I get the dbl-cardan rebuilt? Are the failures usually associated with the front u-joint because it is so close to the exhaust?
Yep. LR, in their infinite wisdom, made the front joint serviceable, while the two rear joints (that are right next to the converter, and get dripped on by the evaporator drain tubes) UNserviceable.
Replace all three yourself, buy the joints and have a driveshaft shop replace them, or buy a serviceable shaft. After that, remember to lube them at every oil change.
The term maintenance, in my book has been replaced with "Land Rovering"

I just got an 04 S with 61k on it and looks like it has the stock front drive shaft. I'm finding the info I need for rebuilding it but can anyone recommend where I go to buy one that is already rebuilt? Just wondering what the prices are on them.
Seems like its better to go buy the parts and have a local shop rebuild.
Thanks
