Hey every one,
Im new and I haven't seen this but I do have a question, but first the back story (it won't take long). I have a 2001 D2 SE and half way through a 6 hour drive the exhaust go a little louder. Looked under it and nothing looked broke and I couldn't see the leak. turns out it was my muffler itself and it was on the passenger side and I didn't see it. Well hour five the truck shut down, and it turns out it melted my evap canister and pretty much everything else around it. So I bought a new canister (like the one in the photo) and it came with the leak detection pump attached. My issues are that the tree lines I have are smaller so I don't see where the bigger line from the leak detector goes to, and I have a live that didn't melt but it drips fuel. So what Im hoping every one can help me with is 1: is it posable that the canister I got was incorrect? and is the line that's dripping a fuel line? Does any one know is there a way to replace that part? or can i cut the line ends off and attach it together with out the bend?
Im at my braking point and threatened the car with sending it to the junk yard, and would appreciate all the help you can offer.

There were two different types of leak detection systems used in the D2. The designs and how they work is well explained in the workshop manual from p. 17-2-15. Maybe you bought the wrong canister/pump assembly. First you need to figure out which type of leak detection system do you have. Do you have SAI?

 

I didn’t even think of that, but after looking under the hood it doesn’t look like I do. With out the sai would it be the canister with out the pump attached there? I don’t see any wires near the lines there but every thing did melt so I can’t really tell.

 

Thank you @Discorama for leading me to the manual. judging from the bracket the the canister is on 'i do indeed have the wrong one.

I guess my questions for every one now are (still that fuel line question), and can I use the same evap canister I have if I take off the leak detection pump? or do I need to try to find another one?

I have an unmolested canister off a non-SAI truck if you do need a replacement. Don't have any of the hoses though.

 

The line that's dripping fuel could be because there's an o-ring inside the connector that is leaking. Or perhaps the system has become pressurised because one of the lines has melted shut, so the pressure is forcing fuel out of the weakest point.

 

@mollusc what are your thoughts if I temporarily bypass that connector by connection the lines together?

 

The canister appears to be the same between the positive and negative pressure leak detection system. Both have three connections (pls. compare pp. 17-2-3 & 17-2-4).

If the used canister is not usable, you can also get a new one for Chevy/GMC (CP445) for about $100. I got this one and it is identical to the original one. I put it in and no EVAP codes and I passed emission.
